Dealer's Notice
Under the UK Hallmarking Act 1973, any item described as being made wholly or partly from silver, gold, platinum or palladium must be hallmarked, unless it falls within specific legal exemptions.
A UK hallmark normally includes three key parts:
• the maker’s or sponsor’s mark
• the metal and fineness (purity) mark
• the assay office mark showing where it was tested
At Echoes Jewellery, hallmarks and metal marks are described as accurately as possible in each product listing. If a piece is not hallmarked but carries other marks or stamps, these are included in the description to help identify the item and its origin. This applies to marks from both the UK and other countries.
As required by law, all UK dealers selling precious metal jewellery must display an official hallmarking notice explaining the symbols used in UK hallmarks. This notice is shown below.
