An antique sterling silver medal fob of shield form, fully hallmarked for Chester 1905.

The front is designed with a central vacant cartouche, intended for engraving, framed by scrolling decoration and stylised foliate elements. Above, a ribbon-like banner sits beneath a detailed leaf and floral motif.

The form draws on heraldic design, with the shield shape historically associated with identity, achievement and commemoration. Medal fobs such as this were commonly awarded in the Edwardian era for sporting or academic accomplishments, or worn as decorative tokens on watch chains.

The reverse is plain and bears a full set of hallmarks, including the Chester assay mark and date letter for 1905, along with the maker’s mark J&RG for Joseph & Richard Griffin.

Originally intended to be worn on a watch chain, this piece can now be worn as a pendant.

Weight: 10.4g
