A beautiful pair of sterling silver stud earrings set with Blue John, one of Britain's most distinctive and geographically rare gemstones.
Blue John is a rare variety of fluorite, famously associated with the hills around Castleton in Derbyshire's Peak District. Its name is traditionally linked to the French bleu-jaune, or "blue-yellow", although the precise origin of the name is debated. The stone became particularly fashionable in Britain during the Georgian period, when it was fashioned into decorative objects including vases, urns and architectural ornaments.
Fully hallmarked for Birmingham.
