Chunky silver pendant with purple composite stone

A large silver pendant set with an oval purple stone, in a detailed silver mount.

The stone has a mottled appearance, with areas of deep and lighter purple broken up by gold-toned veining. The surface is domed and polished, giving it a smooth, glass-like finish.

The setting is substantial, with a beaded edge around the stone and a wide decorative band to the sides, made up of repeating raised details. The bail is broad and fixed, with simple scrollwork to the front.

The stone is a composite material, formed from purple fragments within a metallic-toned matrix. Pieces like this are often sold under trade names such as “amethyst copper turquoise” or “purple dahlia turquoise”.
