Mid-Century sterling silver foliate brooch (Sterling Foreign)

This vintage brooch is crafted in sterling silver and marked STERLING FOREIGN, a designation used for silver jewellery manufactured outside the United States and imported for sale there during the mid-20th century (c.1940s - 1960s).

The design takes the form of a stylised foliate motif, composed of layered, openworked leaves with fine texturing and granulated detail. The recessed surfaces retain areas of darker patina, creating contrast that emphasises the depth and intricacy of the metalwork. The warmer tones visible in places are consistent with natural oxidation within textured sterling silver and are typical of pieces of this period.

The reverse is fitted with a traditional pin and rollover clasp, and all elements appear complete and original to the design.

Likely produced in Europe, this brooch reflects the popularity of decorative silver accessories made for the American export market in the post-war decades.
