Silver and amethyst ring, size Q (US 8)

A silver ring set with an oval amethyst cabochon.

The stone has a rich violet-purple colour, with subtle variations and inclusions visible beneath its polished surface. It is held within a simple silver bezel setting, rising prominently above a slender polished band. 

Amethyst has been treasured for thousands of years. Its name derives from the Ancient Greek amethystos, meaning "not intoxicated", reflecting the ancient belief that the stone could protect its wearer from drunkenness. Over the centuries it has also become associated with clarity, tranquillity and protection, and was historically regarded as one of the most precious coloured gemstones.
