Vintage Polish silver amber ring with Gdańsk silver marks, size O (US 7)

A sculptural silver ring set with a square honey-toned Baltic amber piece, mounted within a sharply angled, architectural surround. 

The ring bears Polish state hallmarks introduced in 1986, including the 925 standard mark with the letter G, indicating assay in Gdańsk. A second oval punch showing a bird motif beside the letter C appears to be the maker’s mark. 

Gdańsk and the Baltic coast have long been associated with amber craftsmanship, and rings of this type were typically produced by small studios or independent silversmiths, where bold geometric settings and natural amber were used to create sculptural, modernist forms.

Amber has been valued across northern Europe for centuries, not only as a decorative material but as a substance associated with warmth, protection and continuity. Formed from fossilised tree resin, it has historically been understood as a material that preserves traces of the past within its structure. In jewellery, it often carries connotations of memory, endurance and connection to the natural world.
